ARTIST HISTORY
Scott Schaefer
In the spring of 2003, Scott purchased his first music instrument in the form of a Native American flute and began teaching himself to play. Little did he know at the time, this incredible musical instrument would send him on a journey that would change his life forever.
While Scott’s primary instrument is the Native American Flute, you will find that his style is more in line with World Music rather then Native American style music. Scott’s musical journey has given him exposure to exotic instruments from the four corners of the world such as the Didgeridoo and Chinese Guzheng. He has taught himself to play these instruments as well with an impressive degree of proficiency. Incorporating the Didgeridoo and Guzheng into his performances he transcends the audience on a world tour as he shares in a little history and a story or two about these magical instruments.
Marina Miyoshi
Born in Yokohama, Japan, Marina began playing piano at age 4. At age 8 she composed the theme song for her class play. At age 13 she won her junior high school competition for original song composition. From 1998-2001, Marina composed music for her popular high school all girl rock band. At her young age, Marina is an inspiration to those that know her as she continues to battle severe arthritis in her hands and fingers. Despite her debilitating disease, she performs with a passion and grace that can only be described as nothing short of amazing.
In the spring of 2008, she met Scott on her first trip to the United States. They discovered a musical chemistry between them that made possible a collaboration called “Ebb & Flow”.
Marina returned to Japan the day after the production of Ebb & Flow. The success of Ebb & Flow in the United States inspired Marina to compete in the widely acclaimed Kawakami Musical Instrument Competition in Japan in the fall of 2008. Marina was awarded first place and her reputation was launched as a new, fresh and exciting music talent in Japan. In February of 2009, Marina returned to the United States to begin performing and promoting Ebb & Flow. While on her return visit, Marina and Scott were commissioned top write ambient music for a yoga DVD and a CD called “Sacred Waters” came out of that experience. Their third CD called “Looking Up” will be completed in November 2009.
